For this Bookending Autumn prompt I am meant to decide which witch from fiction I would most like to be. Which is, of course, a horribly difficult decision!
Like a lot of book bloggers, I grew up reading the Harry Potter series and dreaming of my own admission to Hogwarts. It wouldn’t be untrue to say I wish I were one of the Hogwarts witches (probably Ginny), but I’m not entirely sure that’s the witch I want to choose for this prompt.
One of my favorite magic systems/witch set ups takes place in Practical Magic. Magic is so casual in this novel and reminds me of my real life practice of witchcraft. However, because it’s so close to life, I can’t exactly say that I wish I were one of the Owens sisters.
At the moment, I am over halfway done with reading The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith. The story takes place in historic French wine country where it is common to host a witch to care for one’s vineyard. Similar to Practical Magic, a lot of witchcraft in this world is based on natural components and the potency we give them. However, there is an additional level of witchcraft that turns the mundane into the far more powerful.
I think I would want to be a vine witch like Elena.
