Yep! Another witchy themed Blogtober post! Today I’ll be talking about my favorite fictional witches–not magic users as a whole, so some of my faves will be eliminated based on being another class of magic user. This post idea came from Carmen’s Reading Corner!
5. Lena Duchannes from Beautiful Creatures
This is probably the Alabama in me talking, but I loved this book and movie. Lena and her family of Casters fascinated me, and I keep intending to finish the series one day. I thought the way magic manifested and the intricate family drama were very interesting! And Lena struck me as appropriately tortured yet not unbearable.
4. Angela from The Inheritance Cycle
Full of subtle pop culture references and mysterious in many ways, Angela is a breath of fresh air in this series. Where others are serious and careful with magic, Angela takes full joy in life and is one of the most entertaining of Paolini’s characters!
3. Tea from The Bone Witch
Tea has quickly become one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. Her power is immense, her determination fierce, and her story incredibly compelling. An exile by age seventeen, Tea is fearsome and rightly so! Her dark powers to raise the dead are stronger than any other asha wishes to admit.
2. Elphaba from Wicked
If you’ve only encountered the musical adaptation, then this book is a wild ride. Elphaba is a badass in a lot of ways, but also the book goes far deeper into the lore of how her magic works and why she’s so odd compared to others in her world.
1. Angelique from Timeless Fairy Tales and The Fairy Tale Enchantress series
Enchantress (in training) Angelique is a recurring character from KM Shea’s Timeless Fairy Tales series. She pops up just in time to save countless characters from the fairy tale retellings, taking the roll of fairy godmother and powerful enchantress alike in each story. The second series focuses exclusively on Angelique, telling the story of her early days as an enchantress in training and her struggles with her unusual magic and mentor.
